At a special preview event in New Delhi today, HTC showed off its newest flagship smartphone – the HTC One – and announced that it will be launched in India in April, though failing to mention exact launch dates or pricing information.

The HTC One will be the second smartphone to be launched in the country with a Full HD 1080p display, following the HTC Butterfly that was launched in January. The 4.7-inch Super LCD3 display sports an impressive 468ppi pixel density, along with the natural colours and high image quality we initially saw on the One X last year.

The One comes with a new UltraPixel camera technology – the camera on the device has a custom sensor with enlarged pixels that let in around three times more light than conventional smartphone cameras, resulting in better low-light imaging than is otherwise possible. The large pixels do limit the resolution of pictures taken to only 4-megapixel, but that shouldn’t be an issue for most considering all smartphones and most computers have a lower resolution than that.

HTC has also introduced a new software feature called BlinkFeed, which is basically a Flipboard-style graphical feed of all your social network and other feeds right on the homescreen, with real-time updates to keep you up to date with what is important to you. The phone runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the HTC’s New Sense UI, with an update to Android 4.2 promised soon after launch.

The aluminium uni-body of the HTC One houses some other great specs as is expected from flagships in this day and age, such as a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor that provides 40% faster performance compared to previous chipsets, 2GB RAM, 32/64GB of built-in storage, dual stereo speakers on the front, Beats Audio integration, and a 2,300 mAh battery.

In short, the HTC One is one of the most innovative Android smartphones to come out in quite some time, but something to wonder about is how HTC will price this stunning device. The HTC Butterfly debuted at Rs. 46,000, so it’s a bit scary to think how much the One will cost considering it has better specs than the former. One thing is for certain though – customers will have to get used to seeing iPhone-like prices for all flagship smartphones going forward.

Would you guys be getting an HTC One? Or are you waiting for Samsung to unveil the Galaxy S4 before making a decision?
