The ASUS PadFone Infinity wasn’t the only thing ASUS had to show at the Mobile World Congress, they also brought something that will give the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 – meet the FonePad, a 7-inch tablet with built-in phone functionality.

Sporting a microSIM slot for data and network connectivity, the FonePad comes with a 7-inch IPS display of 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 with PowerVR SGX540 GPU. This marks the arrival of the first Android tablet to be powered by an Intel processor, something which first came to light via an FCC document.

The ASUS FonePad also has 1GB of RAM, a 3 megapixel rear camera, 1.2 megapixel front camera, 16GB of built-in storage and a microSD slot which supports up to 32GB cards, Wi-Fi and HSPA+ connectivity, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The battery is a 4,270 mAh unit, which ASUS says is capable of up to 9 hours of battery life.

The FonePad will be available in Europe for £179, and in the US later on for $249, though the exact release time frame wasn’t mentioned. Availability in other markets wasn’t talked about, but we’ll be sure to let you know more pending further info.
