For reasons unknown, Samsung likes to change the name of their Android tablets when launching them in India, and the company has dealt the same treatment to the recently unveiled Galaxy Note 8.0. The 8-inch tablet has been announced in India at the Samsung Forum as the Galaxy Note 510.
The Galaxy Note 8.0 510 is basically an 8-inch twin of the Galaxy Note 2 – S Pen, physical home button, and the ability to make phone calls all included. The only major difference in specs from the Note 2 is the 8-inch 1280 x 800 pixels display (which incidentally was the resolution of the original Galaxy Note), 5 megapixel and 1.3 megapixel back and front cameras, and the larger 4,600 mAh battery suited to a tablet.
Other specs include a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB built-in storage and microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, HSPA, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The usual software enhancements are also part of the parcel, such as Smart Stay, Direct Call, ChatON 2.0, Popup Play, etc.
There was no mention of the Galaxy Note 510's pricing, but it is expected to launch in the country at the end of March or April. Stay tuned on more info on price and availability in the coming weeks.
