ASUS has announced that the Android 4.2 OTA update for the Transformer Pad TF300 has begun rolling out in the US today, making the 10.1-inch tablet the first non-Nexus tablet to run on the latest version of Android and reaffirming ASUS’ penchant for usually being the first to provide major updates to their devices.
The update brings along all the enhancements found in Android 4.2, such as lockscreen widgets (don’t forget to try DashClock), new keyboard with gesture typing, Daydream screen saver mode, as well as multiple user support. The update includes performance and stability improvements as well, along with updates to the App Locker, Virtual Keyboard, Lock Screen and Setup Wizard apps. Also, according to one user, ASUS has added the option of either using ASUS’ home launcher or use the new Nexus 7-like launcher that puts the navigation keys on the middle of the screen.
As for folks outside the US, ASUS states that the update should be available worldwide during March. The firmware downloads page on ASUS’ website doesn’t seem to have the Android 4.2 update available for manual download yet, but once it does, you can rest assured we’ll be putting up a step-by-step guide on how to install it.
Also, the Transformer Pad Infinity, MeMO Pad Smart 10”, and MeMO Pad will be receiving an update to Android 4.2 sometime in Q2 2013, and while the Transformer Prime was already confirmed back in November to be eligible for the update, ASUS is yet to give a concrete time frame for it.
